Los Angeles, CA – Hypothesis, a premium insights, design, and strategy agency, is excited to congratulate its long-time client/partner, ESPN, for being named an ARF David Ogilvy Award finalist in the “Sports, Media & Entertainment” category for its incredible campaign “The Last Dance.” ESPN was also nominated for two additional campaigns in the same category: “There’s No Place Like Sports,” and “We Love It Here.”

For The Last Dance, Hypothesis played a critical role in the multi-phase research program that guided the campaign from creative brief, to creative execution, and impact measurement. Specifically, ESPN used a Hypothesis-developed Fan Segmentation to understand fans’ attitudes and motivations to ultimately tap into the “Story Seeker” segment. These fans that are drawn to the stories around sports and want to connect more personally to players. Being younger and more diverse, the segment represented a great opportunity to grow The Last Dance audience via overall consumption, engagement, and brand connection. Hypothesis helped illuminate and bring this important segment to life with video, workshops, and immersive installations.

Hypothesis congratulates all of the companies involved in this amazing campaign – The Shop, Boomshot, Art Machine, Starcom, and Hart Research – and thanks ESPN for their leadership.

The awards will be presented at the ARF David Ogilvy Award virtual ceremony on October 8. We look forward to celebrating this accomplishment with our campaign partners, colleagues, clients, and fellow Ogilvy Award winners.
